Deadline for submissions: August 15th, 2018.
Who may enter: Anyone can enter the competition.
Reasons to enter: There is no submission fee, it is FREE. The 3 photographs showing the best depiction of the human interest on national day (determined by judges) will receive money prizes from PPI Irlandia.
What to Enter: Each participant can submit up to 3 photographs. Each photograph must be submitted with a maximum 100 word description text. Photograph submissions should represent how you view the human interest on national day.
How to Enter: Only online submissions will be considered. Send your photo submission to firstname.lastname@example.org before August 15th, 2018.
Manipulation of photos: The only acceptable manipulation includes correction of red-eye, cropping, and straightening of photos. No added text, colour manipulations, or photoshopped submissions.
Display and Future Use Rights: By submitting an entry to the contest, the submitter grants permission to PPI Irlandia the use, and rights associated to the use of the photographic likeness, in promotional publications, and other media, without compensation.
Judging: Judges will determine the placings. Their decision on all entries is final. Consult “Photograph Judging Criteria” below for more information.
Disqualification: Any photographs submitted that contain inappropriate content and/or is of plagiarised content will be immediately disqualified.
Photograph Judging Criteria
Judges will review digital submissions received from participants. Photographs will be judged on Impact, Creativity, Composition, and Story Telling of the photograph. Each category will be judged on a point system worth 25 points.
Impact – the sense one gets upon viewing an image for the first time. Compelling images evoke laughter, sadness, anger, pride, wonder or another intense emotion. The initial impact should evoke a sense of what the human interest on national day is.
Creativity – the original, fresh, and external expression of the imagination of the maker by using the medium to convey an idea, message or thought.
Composition – important to the design of an image, bringing all of the visual elements together in concert to express the purpose of the image. Proper composition holds the viewer in the image and prompts the viewer to look where the creator intends. Effective composition can be pleasing or disturbing, depending on the intent of the image maker.
Story Telling – refers to the image’s ability to evoke imagination in what is happening in the photograph. Photographs should tell a story about what the human interest in national day means to you.
